Brian Manyire is a Senior Associate. He joined the firm in 2016 and has proven to be highly versatile while rising in the Corporate-Commercial and IP/TMT practice groups.
Brian advises clients in various sectors such as intellectual property, technology and commercial contract matters across all sectors, including in relation to M&A transactions, payments systems, streaming and franchising. Brian’s IP practice covers advisory, transactional work and litigation. He has extensive experience in advising clients on the protection and exploitation of IP rights across a broad range of sectors and industries. Brian has also successfully handled a variety of disputes in the High Court and the Uganda Trademark Office relating to trademarks infringement, passing off, copyright infringement, and other complex commercial issues. Brian routinely advises the firm’s clients on a broad range of issues related to data protection and privacy concerns such as compliance and reporting, responses to data breaches, the impact of regulatory directives, and on image and personality rights.
On the corporate-commercial side of things, Brian has a broad corporate and corporate finance practice, which includes in cross border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and general commercial work, financing transactions, as well as corporate governance and company advisory matters. Brian also supports financial services clients on supervisory and contentious regulatory matters concerning regulators.
Brian has previously been seconded to Coulson Harney LLP and practiced at an international law firm.
Brian has been named a “recommended expert” by The World Trademark Review for 4 years running now. He is a co-author of the Uganda Chambers & Partners Practice Guide on Insolvency in Uganda and the author of the several articles on intellectual property.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (Hons) from Makerere University, a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre and a Post Graduate Diploma in Taxation and Revenue from the East African School of Taxation and Revenue. He is also a registered trademark agent.
